Keeping your business information safe

April 28, 2010

Just because you’re using a program that is based on your desktop, doesn’t mean it’s safe from hackers and viruses. In some cases, desktop programs have lower security than online programs because they don’t have to stay updated against all the latest viruses. Here are some things you can do to protect your business information:

Password Protection

If the programs or websites you use offer password protection, use it! Make sure your password is not obvious, you’d be amazed the amount of passwords out there that are simply “password.” A good password includes a few letters at least one number and at least one special character, something like @ or $.

Financial info

Make sure your financial information, and your customer financial information, is safe and encrypted. Some desktop programs store payment information in text format or easy-to-access files. If someone stole or hacked into your computer, they shouldn’t be able to find that information easily (or at all). If someone steals the credit cards of your clients, you could be held responsible. Unitwise has exclusive integration with ProPay’s new ProtectPay system, so payment and credit card information is encrypted and secure.

Back it up!

If your computer suddenly melted today, what would happen to all your business information? Would you still have it? It’s important to back up your information on a routine basis. Use a portable hard drive, DVDs, or an online storage solution. If you use UnitWise, you never have to worry about losing your information, it’s available anywhere, any time. Power outage? Fried hard drive? No worries with UnitWise.

Don’t put your business and customers at risk, start practicing safe computer habits now.

New themes are here!

March 19, 2010

We’ve been working hard on some new themes for your website. Like the one you see here. This one is called Radiance. It comes in a number of pleasing shades. As promised, we’re working on more of these themes. If you have any suggestions, please let us know.

What else are we bringing you? There’s the Blvd Migration tool, the new menus, and new social media features. ¬†We’ve also fixed some minor bugs and sped up the customer center.

We’ve received a number of requests for a mobile version of UnitWise. Rest assured, we are working on that. Right now you can use UnitWise on your mobile browser, just like any other website. It might be kind of small, but everything works, so if you need to create a quick invoice or add a contact on the go, that will do in a pinch. In later spring/early summer, we’ll have a version optimized for mobile phones.

If you’re going to a career conference in Knoxville, Charlotte, or Little Rock, look for us there! We’ll be on hand to spread the word and answer any UnitWise questions.

New spring promotion!

March 17, 2010

Great news UnitWise members! We’ve got a new promotion for you. If you refer four friends to UnitWise, you can receive a month free.

To send a referral to your friends and family, login to UnitWise then click the My Account link at the top.

You’ll see a new tab to the right called Referral.

Click that tab to see your referral options. To send referrals click the link that says “Send Referral Emails to friends and family.”

This will bring up a window with a message in it. You can use the message here, edit it, or create your own. Input the email address of the person you to send it to, then click send.

When they click the link in the email and sign up, the referral will be credited to your account. Get four people to sign up and remain members for at least one paid month, and you’ll receive a month free! You can come back to your referral tab at any time to check the status of your referrals.

If you’re heading to a Career Conference in the next couple of weeks, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to refer friends to UnitWise. So get out there and spread the word!

Leave desktop programs behind!

March 10, 2010

It’s now safe to leave your desktop-based programs behind. We’ve had hundreds of requests for a Blvd to UnitWise migration tool, and it’s available now.

Importing your Blvd customers and invoices is easy. Just download a small program from the Tools menu, abd it will take care of the rest, organizing your Blvd data into UnitWise compatible files. The whole thing will take you just a few minutes. Watch the video below for a full info migration walk through.

Easy right? You can get started now by clicking on the Tools link in your UnitWise account.

If you’re still not a UnitWise member, what are you waiting for? You can bring all your old info with you. It’s like switching from black and white TV to color. Head to to sign up now!

New Features: New menu, Back Order, Replacements and more

March 9, 2010

UnitWise is seeing some changes this week–all to make it better and easier to use. Let’s check them out.

First, you probably noticed the menu system is a little different. The extra menus are no longer on the left side. We thought we’d de-clutter things a bit and give you more room to move about the program. This is how it used to look:

This is how it looks now:

All the menu options you’ve come to know are still there, so don’t worry. To see them, just click on that little tab on the right. Watch the video below to see it in action.

We also have new options for creating a back order and making replacements. These can be found on the Inventory page. We’ll have a video up shortly on how to use these great features.

We’ve got one more feature to show you–Blvd Migration–this one was requested by hundreds of users. We can’t wait to unveil it. Check here tomorrow to see it in action.

As with any of our new features, many of these came from suggestions and feedback from our awesome users. If you have any more, please let us know.
